It is the world where the man-eating demon hangs out. To fight against the demon, the human beings create female soldiers that are half demons and half human. They have silver eyes and large swords. They are named Claymore after their swords.
When Claire was a child, she met Theresa, the strongest Claymore. To save Claire, Theresa broke their iron rule to kill a human. Because of breaking the rules, she was wanted by punitive group. Pricilla, a member of the punitive group, couldn't control the power of the magical sword, and turned into an "Awakened". Then, Theresa was beaten by the large power of Pricilla. To avenge Theresa, Claire decided to inherit Theresa-s flesh to become Claymore.

Name: Clare Nickname: unknown Rank: #47 Type: OFFENSIVE In anime she is a main character. When she was little her family was eaten by a Yoma. After being chased out of her village, another captured her and made her part of its disguise and its toy, often torturing her. She was saved by Teresa. In a short time their relationship become very strong. After Teresa's death caused by half Awakened Priscilla Clare become a Claymore from Teresa's flesh and blood to get revenge on Priscilla. On one of her assignments she meet boy named Raki and from that time they're traveling together. Name: Teresa Nickname: Teresa of the Faint Smile Former Rank: #1 Type: OFFENSIVE Teresa was the strongest Claymore of her time. She was know as Teresa of the Faint Smile probably because she was slaying her enemies effortlessly with a faint smile on her face. She was powerful and hardly ever used even 10% of her Yoki in battle. Her rise to Claymore No. 1 led to the demotion of the previous No. 1, Rosemary. As a Claymore, Teresa was a cold-blooded killer who cared for no one, only helping villages because she was ordered to, and taking pleasure in scaring humans. She was also solitary and rarely had contact with any of the other Claymores in the organization. Everything changed when she met Clare. Name: Priscilla Nickname: unknown Former Rank: #2 Type: OFFENSIVE / AWAKENED BEING She was promoted to be Claymore #2 shortly after joining the organization. Priscilla became a Claymore after a Yoma posing as her father slaughtered the rest of her family right before her eyes. She managed to chop off its head and this incident caused her to develop a strong belief in justice. Though extremely powerful with the potential of becoming #1, Priscilla was still a child and mentally weak when she received the order to execute Teresa. While she was polite and fair in combat, her view of the world was entirely black-and-white: every person and action in this world was either right or wrong. Name: Miria Nickname: Phantom Miria Rank: #6 Type: OFFENSIVE Miria can greatly, but briefly, increase her speed to the point where she leaves many afterimages of herself in battle, confusing the opponent. She is also very skilled at teamwork and tactics. Miria is a partially awakened Claymore and is subtly rebelling against the organization, trying to learn its secrets. When we first meet her she is head of a squad made of: Clare, Helen and Deneve, which was sent to a town that had a possibility of harboring an Awakened Being. Name: Galatea Nickname: unknown Rank: #3 Type: DEFENSIVE She is a master at sensing Yoki, being able to sense other Claymores from a long distance, read their emotions, and see their actions as if she were close by. She can also control other people's actions by subtly manipulating their Yoki flows. In addition, she claims that her Yoma power, when released, is the greatest among all the current Claymores. She is also one of the most kind-hearted Claymores. Galatea, as the organization's eye, was sent to spy on Miria's party during the male Awakened Being incident. Name: Helen Nickname: unknown Rank: #22 Type: OFFENSIVE Helen's special power is to stretch her arms to extreme lengths to attack at range or bind her opponents. Helen is partially Awaken, but has reverted to her human state. Helen is hot tempered and aggressive. Her mouthy and sometimes insensitive nature means that she can appear to be something of a bully. She is Deneve's constant companion. Deneve commented that she is "always the troublemaker." However, Helen is honest and cares fiercely for her friends. Name: Deneve Nickname: unknown Rank: #15 Type: DEFENSIVE Like Helen she is partially awakened, though she succeeded in reverting to her normal state. She possesses a calm and understanding personality but can be a perfectionist. Her regeneration ability is exceptional, even for a defensive fighter. Name: Irene Nickname: Flash Sword Irene Former Rank: #3 Type: OFFENSIVE Irene was originally Claymore #2 but that has changed after Priscilla joined the organization. She was well known for her great speed wielding a sword. She achieves this via controlled awakening of her sword arm. In general, Irene's demeanor is calm and intelligent. During the mission to assassinate Teresa, the Awoken Priscilla attacked her and cut off her left arm. Irene let the organization think she was dead and went into seclusion, using her near-flawless control over her Yoma energy to hide in the mountains. Years later she rescues Clare, who was fighting against Ophelia. Name: Jean Nickname: unknown Rank: #9 Type: OFFENSIVE Jean's attack, based on storing energy by twisting her arm and releasing it in one burst, is said to be the most destructive among her peers. She is serious and strictly honorable. Jean and her team members are captured during an Awakened Being hunt, which turns out to be an ambush. After prolonged torture, she awakens, but is able to revert back to human shape by virtue of her extraordinary willpower and Clare's help. She then decides to pay back the life debt she now owes Clare, choosing to follow Clare. Name: Flora Nickname: Windcutter Flora Rank: #8 Type: OFFENSIVE Her lightning-fast sword drawing technique, considered to be the fastest draw of any Claymore. She was a division captain during the North campaign. Unlike most of the other Claymores who speak in blunt Japanese, Flora always used polite language. After the first skirmish in the Northern campaign, she challenged Clare to a duel in order to test her Windcutter sword style against Clare's Quick Sword technique. Unfortunately she was killed by by Rigardo. Name: Ophelia Nickname: Rippling Ophelia Rank: #4 Type: OFFENSIVE / AWAKENED BEING Her special fighting technique is "rippling" her sword by waving it back and forth at great speed. This technique is extremely difficult to dodge or block, even for an opponent who can predict her movements, such as Clare. Based on this technique, she gave herself the title Rippling Ophelia. Ophelia was assigned to fight with Clare against an Awakened Being, but she tried to kill Clare and Raki instead as she suspected that Clare was partially Awakened. She almost succeeded, but was stopped by Irene, who severely wounded her. Badly wounded and furious at her defeat, Ophelia released all her Yoma energy and Awakened , becoming a serpentine creature. Despite her hunger and desire for guts, Ophelia doesn't realize she's Awakened until she caught a glimpse of her reflection in a lake. She was killed by Clare.
